Derby 2025
The inaugural Hitchin Soapbox Derby took place on Sunday 21st September 2025 after 6 months of planning and it was... A huge success!
As part of a team comprising local business owners, I was involved in all aspects of the event, from Event Branding and publicity through to Marshalling on the day, ensuring public safety and helping create a very memorable event for all who took part or watched from the hill.
Early estimates are up to 10,000 spectators on the day!
Adverts and flyers were created months prior the launch to advertise the event and start to generate interest with calls to Soapbox racers to enter their creations.
Many Social Media assets were created, including a 10 day countdown timer showcasing the main Event Sponsors
Heras Fence Branding.
3375 x 1780mm perforated vinyl banners were created to 'dress' the Heras fencing erected throughout the Race Venue.
Participation Certificates ensured every race team walked away with a 'memento' of their day - awarded after the final race.
The team with the Winning Time on the day were Awarded 'Soapbox Hero of Hitchin'.
With early estimates suggesting upwards of 10,000 visitors to the event, the whole of Hitchin Town Centre witnessed a significant increase in footfall and more importantly, in sales. Some of the local food retailers reported selling out of produce well before the end of the day!
A truly wonderful event, watched by thousands and topped off by the good people of Hitchin, each grabbing a straw bale and walking it down the hill to the finish line. Amazing day.
